About Life
Like a frozen statue seated on a bench
She watched the river flow past like better days
An old man came along sneaking up on her
And broke the silence and her gaze
He asked if she took the afternoon off from work
to enjoy the warming sun
she said, “No I’m sitting out tryin’ to figure out
just when life stopped being fun”
she said, “Mister why can’t things be easy anymore?
Do you have any wise gems to share?”
He pointed to a little boy playin’ in a tree
and said that kids got your answer right there
Cause he dreams he’s up to bat in the bottom of the ninth
Looks beneath the blowin’ grass with wonder in his eyes
Jumps over puddles, more fun if he falls
And everyone’s a friend, he still prays for them all
He’s not afraid to fail so he always tries…
And he can teach me and you a thing or two….about life.
she said that’s my song swinging from that limb
Doing again what I told him not to do
Last year he fell while climbing that same tree
Broke his arm and sprained an ankle too
I keep telling him he needs to act his age
To grow up and be a man
He’ll say mom I’m just a kid, I don’t want to get old.
Gonna be a kid as long as I can
Mister maybe I’ve been more than a little confused
Maybe I’ve been looking at things wrong
I’ve been wrapped up trying to make him into me
When I should’ve been more like him along
Cause He dreams he’s up to bat in the bottom of the ninth
Looks beneath the blowin’ grass with wonder in his eyes
Jumps over puddles, more fun if he falls
And everyone’s a friend, he still prays for them all
He’s not afraid to fail so he always tries…
And He can teach me and you a thing or two….about life.
Who could have known an eight year old could be so wise…..About Life?
